About Neil Stock

As a youth on a farm in rural Nebraska, my earliest attempts to create something fashionable was to make crepe paper costumes on my first Singer treadle sewing machine.

I continued to learn and develop my sewing skills at the University of Nebraska where I met my mentor Dr. Robert Hillestad. He was very influential in helping shape my creative outlook. I graduated with a B.S. in “Textiles, Clothing and Design.” With little opportunity to put my new career to use, I traveled to other places in search of opportunity.

I landed in Anchorage, Alaska for awhile and worked with the Anchorage Civic Opera helping the costume designer build costumes and becoming the “Wig Master.” During this period, I also did costumes for several local theatres.

From Alaska I moved to Albuquerque, NM, then Denver, CO. That didn’t last long before I accepted a job in Chicago. I always packed my trusty sewing machine along for the ride. After ten years Chicago lost its welcome, and I longed to return to Denver where I currently reside with my partner, Rick.

Now I sew and create things that please me. I love the process of creating: designing the idea, then bringing concept, color and fabric to cohesive creation of beauty.

Each year I set up booths at several holiday craft shows and accept commissions that interest me. Life is good when I can sew and create.
